Thanks guys, the feedback has definitely been very positive and I appreciate it. Thanks should also go to the entire staff and players who have been great with their time.
Maybe 2/3 of the way through the season, I was chatting with one of the radio guys from the other team and talking about the things we do. He said he thought the postgame interviews had to be difficult when the game wasn't a good one (for MC). I said not at all, perhaps at some places they can be difficult right in the aftermath of a tough game, but not here, everyone has been nothing short of terrific and very accommodating, answering every last question.
I don't think I knew at the start in North Dakota that it was going to be a nightly thing, but it turned out that way and worked out well I thought. John Leahy, for example, does a great job in the pregame radio interviews with Mark, and the idea was maybe we could add something by bringing people postgame thoughts too.
And since I mentioned John, I have to give him a tremendous amount of thanks for being so welcoming to me this year and being so great to work with. He does a very professional, outstanding job, is so well prepared and very easy to work with. I was particularly glad that he got to call a lot of very exciting games -- and wins -- this season. I have a lot of respect for the other radio guys around the league, and getting to hear John first hand every night and watching him work up close, I think he is certainly one of the best ones out there.
I also have to give a lot of thanks to Mike McMahon, who works so hard and tirelessly. I don't think there is a better beat writer among the league teams. Mike has embraced the "new media" right from the get go with his blog and audio/video work. He goes above and beyond the call of duty with everything he does.
I've been very impressed with the job that everyone in athletics has done this year, getting a chance to see it on a game by game basis this season. I go back a number of years and I don't think overall it has ever been better than I saw it this year. There are a lot of people working very hard to make everything as good as it can be, and also always looking for ways to keep improving. That is what you need. I don't want to run the risk of forgetting anyone, but one person I do want to mention is SID Brad Davis. We wouldn't be able to do what we do if not for him. I have a huge email folder full of all kinds of information that Brad sent us over the season. He does such a terrific job promoting the program and getting us anything we need and ask for. He and his staff deserve a lot of thanks from everyone.
Overall it is a great team effort, everyone doing their part and then some, and I'm just glad to be part of it and that it helps to keep so many people connected with the program. I definitely encourage people to contact AD Glenn Hofmann and let him know the great job he and his staff are doing. Too often people don't hear about the good things, only when something's wrong, but there are certainly a lot of good things going on these days.
