Great win tonight. Great weekend. Period. Please take the negativity elsewhere.

Those 3 pts against a team that is also fighting to get into the playoffs, and then to do it in their house is a GREAT win. Absolutely need to get some pts agains Maine at home(very doable) and to to take 3 or 4 pts against Providence at end of season is a must. things looking up to get into playoffs, but need 24 or 25 pts to do so.

Great Win

Great win tonight by the Warriors. 3/4 points from the weekend is huge, and that makes 5 out of a possible 8 in the past two weekends.

Tie and a win on the road gets the monkey off their backs, too, although it is disconcerting a bit that so much of the success in the league comes against one team-- the Warriors went 2-0-1 against UVM this year.

Merrimack needs to make the best of their chances now to pass or tie UVM in the standings in order to get the last playoff spot-- they'll win any tiebreakers against them. The 4-point swing last weekend against NU looms large, though, as NU also had a good weekend and is pulling away.

I figured Lowell was uncatchable and that NU would finish out of the playoffs. Now MC's best chance to get into the playoffs puts UVM out of the hunt, and Lowell is only three points ahead and the Warriors have a game in hand.

UMA looks vulnerable: next weekend's home and home will be a big pair of games again. From here on out, they're all big games.

Hopefully the coaches and the players are all on the same page and the Warriors can begin their playoff march tonight.

A tie is better than a loss but will it be enough? Tonight's game is that much more huge now. Season Series is up for grabs, a four point swing at stake, will the Warrior's show up to play hard and take the game to the Catamounts? In my opinion they can win this game but have to find a way to contain their top scoring line. Last night they spent way too much time running around in their own end. And please, please, stop using your sticks like you are swishing with a broom. Have the intend to get the puck and/or maybe put a hit on the guy. Last night there was was too much half attempts. Slow their guys down by knocking them down. The Catamounts are deadly with their lateral puck movement in front of the goal tender. Cannata kept the score close last night but he can't be expected to hold the team in on his own. Lack of containment won't bode well in play offs so have to get better. The Warriors also need to get more lateral movement down low on their goalie. The stretch play experiment should be scrapped on these larger ice surfaces. Four guys can not cover the zone in my opinion. Also, how many icings does it cause with resulting face off in your own end? I'd like to see more puck possession against this Vermont team, they are dangerous when they have the puck, don't give it to them. One more thing, stay out of the penalty box, otherwise, game over. A victory tonight will make the bus ride home much more pleasant, let's win it!

Anyway, it's gotten more discussion than it needs and the original poster hasn't even replied, so there's no point

Being the original poster that started this long discussion, all I really wanted to do is to present my feelings and let the discussion go on from there. Following all the comments by recent posters, I have to say that David has done a great job of presenting the minority opinion(or that is what it seems to be). He has had some great anawers to those that say that MC is the best team in the country and will win it all. Wish they could and would, but a reality check says they won't. They have given it a good try. We can all hope they take two against UVM, and then continue to win 70 % of their remaining games, especially against those teams that we would like to end up in 9th and 10th place. THIS IS A MUST.

Sure! Although as far as I remember, captain's practices were pretty much open to anybody, not just me. Pretty sure that Glen Wesley and Tom Fitzgerald weren't on the team that year, but they were at stick practice

Anyway, the story about me attending Anderson's hockey camp as a defenseman and backing into my own goaltender is probably funnier.

As for that last team of Ron's... I always wondered if that BU series went the way it did because the team stopped listening to him. He always struck me as ultimately a very practical and pragmatic guy who always assumed his players were self-motivating. I think it was true for the '88 team but not so true of most of his HE era teams.

You can't make any of these comparison's yet because this team's season is still in progress. This would be a good topic for the summer. Anyone feel like putting together a KRACH table for the 1988 season? It would have to include all of college hockey not just D1 teams.

Another good topic may be to debate who was the best coach of all time Thom Lawler or Ron Anderson. Lots of good arguments could be made on both sides of that one.

In any event the topic of this thread is predicting the outcome of this season and not.......

No, I don't. I said in each post that I was *not* arguing that the team leave the league.

One poster was dismissed in a particularly rude manner as if the issue was settled and holding the opinion that the school should consider leaving the league was absurd. It isn't absurd. Saying it isn't absurd isn't the same thing as saying they should do it.

Anyway, it's gotten more discussion than it needs and the original poster hasn't even replied, so there's no point.

Best team ever? Better than 1988? Not even close. Maybe best team in the HE era, but that's yet to be determined. Best in the last seven years means so little it's hardly worth emphasizing: those years are dismal by any metric anyone would care to use. At this rate, Merrimack could have one of its best years yet-- and still miss the playoffs. How is that improvement?
